Pursuant to the provisions of Article V of the
Bylaws of UNITE HERE Local 165 and Articles 8,
10 and 12 of the Constitution of UNITE HERE,
this is official notice of the nomination and election of
officers of Local 165.
Nominations will be on Tuesday, November
13, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at the regular membership
meeting at the Atrium Showroom in the Luxor Hotel. The Atrium Showroom is located on the fourth floor,
which is on the Attraction Level. All members in good
standing may attend and make nominations.
Nominations will be for the offices of president, vicepresident,
financial secretary-treasurer, five members
of the executive board (Banquets, Organizing,
Membership and Benefits, Grievances and Arbitration,
and Executive Board Member-At-Large), and three
trustees. By virtue of office, the president and financial
secretary-treasurer are delegates to the International
Union Convention and delegates to the Local Joint
Executive Board of Las Vegas.
Nominations will also be accepted for eight
delegates and two alternate delegates to the
International Union Convention to be held in 2009. If
Local 165 is entitled to fewer delegates than those
elected, delegates in addition to the president and
financial secretary-treasurer will be sent to the
convention in the order of the number of votes
received. If Local 165 is entitled to more delegates
than those elected, alternate delegates will be sent to
the convention in the order of the number of votes
received.
Members in order to be eligible to be nominated
must be in attendance at the meeting in which they are
nominated or they must have signified in writing prior
to the opening of nominations, to the secretarytreasurer,
their willingness to accept the nomination if
their name is proposed. No members shall be eligible
to hold an elected office in the union unless actually employed at

the craft or working as an officer and/or
employee of the union. No member shall be eligible to
hold an elected office unless they have been in
continuous good standing in Local 165 for at least
twenty-four (24) consecutive months immediately
preceding the opening of nominations. The election
committee shall pass on the eligibility of all candidates
and their decisions shall be subject to appeal as
provided in the Constitution. The term for all officers is
three years. No member may run for more than one
conflicting office. No seconding motions are required.
Any request to run as a slate must be submitted in
writing to the secretary-treasurer no later than
November 17, 2007 and must include candidates for
at least 2/3 of the offices and at least two candidates
for executive board and two candidates for trustee. A
slate does not need to include candidates for delegate
or alternate delegate to the International Convention.
The election will be on Tuesday, November 27,
2007 at the Culinary Workers Union building, 1630
South Commerce Street in Las Vegas, in the upstairs
meeting hall, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
All active members in good standing on the day of
the election shall be eligible to vote. To be in good
standing, dues through September 2007 must be
paid. To vote, a member must show at the polling place
a piece of identification with the member's picture. Any
member who is reinstated on the day of election is
eligible to vote upon presenting to the election
committee a receipt signed by an authorized employee
of the union showing the financial transaction whereby
the reinstatement fee has been paid in full. Any
candidate shall have the right to have an observer at
the polls and at the counting of ballots.
The installation of officers will be on December 11,
2007 at 1:00 p.m at the Bartenders Union Training
Room.
