ROSEMARY
CHRISTIAN-KEACH
SHOP STEWARD
Rosemary Christian-Keach moved to Las Vegas in
1976 with her family, first working as as a Cocktail
Server in 1985 at Caesars pool and then the Silver
Slipper. She moved over to the Aladdin initially as a
Cocktail Server, eventually switching to bartending in
banquets and concerts. When she heard that female
bartenders were being hired at O’Shea’s she applied and
was finally hired as a full-fledged bartender. A year later
Rosemary moved to the Excalibur as a bartender for the
next 3 years, eventually transferring to the Luxor for its
opening.
She became a Shop Steward in 2004 partly to help
out the other Shop Steward who was on overload
handling all shifts. Rosemary volunteered and became a
Shop Steward in order to share the workload. Also, she
wanted to work on improving the relationship between
the employees and the previous management team.
Rosemary worked diligently on the negotiating team for
the Luxor, spending many hours in negotiating the new
contracts. This resulted in agreeing on a fair wage
increase, maintaining free health benefits, just to name a
few and in working together with her fellow employees,
union representatives, and management was a part of
successfully securing a great new contract.
This being her first time in negotiations, Rosemary
learned that patience is extremely important and that
everyone has an opinion and right to voice that opinion,
no matter how big or small. She appreciated the
willingness of management to cooperate with the
necessary time off required (even at the last minute) to
attend negotiations. Management continuously
accommodated last minute scheduling changes without
causing any undue stress to the negotiating committee,
which was greatly appreciated.
When not working, representing her fellow employees
as a Shop Steward, or attending contract negotiations,
Rosemary and her husband (Lee) like to go deep-sea
fishing off the coast of Mexico. She has a daughter
(Courtney) in college and a golden retriever named
Roscoe (who demands much of her time and is definitely
the pack leader in the family).
