INITIATION PROMISE

Below is the “Initiation Promise” otherwise called “The Oath of Obligation,” used when an Apprentice Bartender has successfully passed his/her craft exam and is being sworn in as a Bartender at our General Quarterly Meetings. As contract negotiations are nearing, read the promise and remember what we stand for, and that we are strengthened by unity. I would like to remind all of our members that this oath is our promise and should not be taken for granted as it signifies the strength of our Union.

I (state your name), of my own free will and accord, in the presence of this Union and before God, do most solemnly and sincerely declare and promise that I will never reveal any of the secrets, acts or plans of this Union which may be entrusted to me, to any person not a member of this Union, without lawful permission to reveal them. I furthermore promise that I will protect the interests of this Union and its members at all times, and use all legitimate means to inaugurate and maintain “two days off in seven” (all members repeat two days off in seven) for myself and fellow employees, wherever employed. And I further promise to do all in my power to induce my craftsmen to become members of this International Union. That I will not take the place of a member of this Union nor yet, the place of a member of any union that affiliates with it, who is on strike by authority of the Union. That I will never cross a picket line or enter an establishment where workers are on strike. That I will purchase union label goods and demand union service.

ON THE COMMUNITY SIDE
UNITED BLOOD SERVICES

STATEWIDE BLOOD SHORTAGE!!!

We have a dire emergency in Nevada, and United Blood Services needs the community’s help! Most of us take for granted that if we need blood for ourselves, or a family member, that it will just be there. This is not the case.
Tim, who is a heart patient in need of heart surgery requiring 6 to 10 units of type O negative blood had his January surgery cancelled due to the shortage of blood in Nevada. Tim is a husband, father, grandfather and a brother. This was very devastating news for Tim, his wife Claudia and their family.
We cannot let this continue to happen. The fact is that only 2% of the1.8 million people in Nevada donate blood. The only way to prevent this is to DONATE, only twice a year. That is 2 pints of blood a year, a very small price to pay to save a life. Imagine if it were you or someone that you love. “Giving Blood doesn’t hurt”… in fact, it makes you feel good inside… Save a Life… Be a HERO… donate… call 233-9620 to schedule an appointment by telephone; or to schedule an appointment on line, log on to www.unitedbloodservices.org
Please encourage your Hotel /Casinos to participate by
holding annual blood drives at least twice a year. If your company is currently participating in an annual United Blood Services blood drive, please make time to participate. Someone’s life is depending on you!
